Ackera Nugent’s World Under-20 60m hurdles record ratified
Ackera Nugent’s world Under-20 indoor 60m hurdles record 0f 7.92 seconds set in March 2021 at the NCAA Indoor Championships in Fayetteville, Arkansas has been ratified by World Athletics.
Nugent’s mark was one of four world records set between March 2021 and March 2022 that were recognised by World Athletics in a release published on Friday.
The mark broke the previous record of 8.00 seconds set in February 2017 by Poland’s Klaudia Siciarz at a meet in Turon. Nugent, who also won the World Athletics Under 20 100m hurdles gold medal in 2021 in Nairobi, Kenya has run faster, posting 7.91 seconds at Texas Tech in Lubbock, Texas, also in 2021 “did not fulfill all the criteria for ratification. Nugent’s 7.92 meets the criteria, so becomes the world U20 record,” the release said.
The other world records ratified were the Women’s world 10km record (mixed race) 29:14 seconds set by Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw in February 2022; the Men’s world U20 200m record of 19.69 seconds by American Erriyon Knighton in Eugene, Oregon at the US Trials in June 2022 and the Men’s world 50km record of 2:40:13 by Stephen Mokoka of South Africa in March 2022.
The release also clarified Knighton’s record after he had run 19.49 seconds earlier in the season.
“Knighton achieved his world U20 200m record at the US Championships on 26 June, running 19.69 to improve on his own previous ratified record of 19.84, also set at Hayward Field in Eugene on 27 June 2021. Knighton had opened his season with a time of 19.49 in Baton Rouge, but that mark could not be ratified as a world U20 record because specific anti-doping testing requirements were not met,” the release said.
