Former cop convicted of murdering Jhaneel Goulbourne to be retried
Former cop Rushon Hamilton, who was in 2013 sentenced to life imprisonment for the 2008 murder of 14-year-old student Jhaneel Goulbourne, is to be retried, the Appeal Court ruled Friday.
The Appeal Court, in quashing the conviction and setting the sentence aside, said in the interest of justice, Hamilton who had been condemned to serve 35 years before eligibility for parole, should be retried as soon as possible.
Goulbourne, who was supposedly in an intimate relationship with the cop, was abducted from her Harbour View, St Andrew home on October 24, 2008. Evidence was given during the trial that Hamilton confessed to a cellmate that he shot the girl and dumped her body at sea.
