COVID, M-Pox continue to trend downwards
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Health Minister Dr Christopher Tufton says COVID-19 and M-Pox (formerly Monkeypox) cases continue to remain low.
Tufton made the disclosure during the Ministry of Health and Wellness’ End-of-Year Press Conference held at the ministry’s head offices on Thursday.
Tufton said the health ministry continues to monitor infection rates which show that during the week of December 6-12, there were 42 new COVID cases and five newly recorded deaths — which occurred during December 2020 and October 2021.
As for M-Pox, Jamaica has 18 cases overall, with one active case. Of the 18 recorded cases, two are imported while 16 are transmitted locally.
The minister said considering the current trend of these infections, there is no need to impose restrictions, but advised that people continue to adhere to COVID-19 protocols and get vaccinated to keep infection levels low.
