Morris Knibb continue to surprise in the Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA) Alberga Cup U-12 Football Competition after securing yet another win, while pre-season favourites Emmanuel Christian Academy (ECA) further confirmed their pedigree ahead of Wednesday’s set of games.

The Hughenden-based upstarts have not lost since their opening-round loss to Hillel Academy and have registered four consecutive wins on the trot, after edging the dangerous Ardenne Prep 3-2 in Monday’s fixture.

This result places Morris Knibb at the top of Zone 1 with 12 points, the same as Hillel, who have played one less match to date. Morris Knibb will on Wednesday face Mavisville at 1:00pm in a game that they are expected to comfortably win.

Also on Monday, ECA made light work of Vaz Prep with a 5-2 victory which also kept their 100 per cent win record intact at the top of Zone 3.

ECA (12 points), as expected, have been dominant this year with last year’s beaten finalists racking up 30 goals while conceding only three in their four matches so far in Zone 3.

On Monday, third-placed St Andrew Prep (9 points) kept their hopes of qualifying for the next round alive, with a solid 4-0 win over St John in the other Zone 1 contest, while defending champions Lannaman’s – also on nine points but now fourth in the zone, recovered from Saturday’s defeat with a 12-0 thrashing of Bright Beginning.

In Zone 2, Mona Prep continued their goalscoring form with a 7-0 win over Portmore Missionary to move to nine points from their three games, placing them second behind AISK (four matches), who hammered Avondale 9-0, while Our Lady of the Angels edged Trafalgar 2-1.

Second-placed Liberty Academy (10 points) kept pace with ECA in Zone 3 with a 1-0 win over Alvernia while Obistian blanked St Theresa 2-0.

In the lone match played in Zone 4, Sts Peter and Paul (12 points) had to dig deep to edge Stella Maris 1-0 while the Wolmer’s vs Queens and New Hope vs St Hugh’s matches were not played due primarily to the effects of Monday’s earthquake.

El Instituto defeated Glenmuir 5-0 in Zone 5, while South Stars and West Indies Prep played out a 0-0 draw.

The competition is set to continue on Wednesday with 17 matches.
