‘Good Times’ earns platinum for Popcaan in Canada

Dancehall artiste Popcaan has one more plaque to add to his collection. ‘I Know There’s Gonna Be’ (Good Times), a song that he recorded with British producer/DJ Jamie xx and rapper Young Thug, was on Wednesday certified platinum in Canada.

The certification, which commemorates more than 80,000 units in combined sales and streaming data, was issued by Music Canada.

I Know There’s Gonna (Be Good Times) is featured on Jamie xx’s debut studio album ‘In Colour’, which was released in 2015.

The single peaked at number 115 on the UK Singles chart, number seven on the UK Indie chart, number 90 in Australia, number 5 in Belgium, number one on the Netherlands Top 100 and number 30 on the Dutch Dance Top 30.

It was previously certified silver in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) for sales exceeding 200,000 units. It was certified gold for sales of more than 500,000 units in the United States in March of last year by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).

The song appears on the soundtrack for the video game NBA Live 16 and NBA 2K17 while also appearing in an episode of Euphoria.

English rapper Skepta’s grime-influenced remix of the song made its debut on Drake’s OVO Sound Radio on Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio station.
