Haiti senate urges PM to call off deployment of international forces
PORT AU PRINCE, Haiti, (CMC) – The Senate has approved a resolution urging Haiti Prime Minister, Dr Ariel Henry, to postpone his request calling for international partners to immediately deploy specialized armed forces in the country.
Henry requested international intervention in the country to put an end to the crisis across the nation caused partly by the criminal actions of armed gangs.
As such, in the resolution, adopted over the last weekend, the Assembly of Senators says it requests that the de facto Prime Minister to immediately suspend the execution of the resolution of October 7, 2022.
The council of ministers had on October 7, authorized Dr Henry to request aid from Haiti’s international partners, which includes the deployment of a specialized armed force to stop the humanitarian crisis caused by criminal actions of armed gangs and their sponsors.
