Harbour View, Cavalier into Lynk Cup knock-out semis
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Former national knock-out champions Harbour View and Cavalier FC are the first semi-finalists in the PFAJ Lynk Cup competition after close wins over Chapleton Maroons and Mt Pleasant respectively in Wednesday’s return leg quarterfinals played at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex.
Harbour View came from a goal down on Wednesday to win 2-1 and advance on a 3-2 aggregate after the teams had played out a 1-1 stalemate in the first game a week ago.
A mistake by the Mt Pleasant goalkeeper in time added on saw Cavalier FC win their game 1-0 and advance on a 2-1 aggregate.
The other two quarterfinals return leg games will be played Thursday. Portmore United will take a 2-1 lead into their game against Molynes United in the first game starting at 4:00pm, while Tivoli Gardens lead Dunbeholden FC 2-0.
On Wednesday, Chapleton Maroons, who will be relegated from the Jamaica Premier League at the end of the season, took the lead in the tie when Earon Elliot opened the scoring in the 33rd minute for a 2-1 lead.
Romaine Brackenridge however pulled Harbour View level in the game and in the tie when he scored in the 67th minute before Rojay Smith gave the ‘Stars of the East’ the lead for good in the 75th minute.
Harbour View ended the game with 10 men after Ajeanie Talbott was shown a second yellow card in the game after flooring David Reid of Chapleton, and was sent off.
He will miss the next game in the competition.
Mt Pleasant FA and Cavalier FC appeared heading for extra-time when a shot from outside the box from Gadail Irving on the right hand side just eluded the Mt Pleasant goalkeeper Shaquan Davis and lodged in the far side of the goal a minute into time added on.
