Herbert Morrison gets edge over Cornwall in U14 basketball
ST JAMES, Jamaica – Herbert Morrison Technical took a psychological edge over Cornwall College after beating them 40-30 in Friday’s rescheduled ISSA Western Conference Under-14 boys’ basketball game to get home advantage in the final set for Wednesday.
Both teams had qualified for the final before Friday’s game and had beaten the other in their previous meetings but their latest win saw Herbert Morrison edge ahead in the tables by one point 11-10 despite a game-high 14 points from Carlyle Tinglin of Cornwall College.
Cornwall College led 12-1 after the first quarter and 17-4 at halftime before a big third quarter from Herbert Morrison (30-2) gave them the lead 34-19, effectively deciding the outcome.
Donier Lynch scored 12 points and had seven rebounds and six steals to lead Herbert Morrison while Tyler Linton scored seven points and Shamar Russell and Michael Johnson got six each.
Tinglin also had eight steals for Cornwall College, while Jonathan Smart, Nathan Hinds and Andrew Reid all scored four points each in support.
