Howard Cooke look to book U13 quarterfinal spot
TUCKER, St James – Former champions Howard Cooke Primary needs only a draw to secure their place in the quarterfinals of the St James Football Association Victoria Mutual Foundation Uplift Under-13 competition on Thursday.
They are scheduled to take on last placed Somerton Primary at Wespow Park.
Howard Cooke Primary leads Zone A with 10 points and will complete their first round schedule and will hope to become the first team from the group to advance.
Montego Bay Prep, who are in second place on six points from three games, and defending champions Granville Primary, who are on four points, also from three games, are scheduled to play Dumfries Primary and Anchovy Primary respectively.
Meanwhile, Green Pond Primary secured their place on Wednesday after beating Adelphi Primary 3-0 in their Zone C game while leaders Barracks Road Primary completed a perfect first round with a 5-1 win over Maldon Primary.
Green Pond’s win took them to 12 points as they joined Barracks Road and John Rollins Success who had booked their places earlier. All three goals came in the first half – from Ladarian Samuels in the 10th minute; Junior Wright’s fourth of the season in the 16th minute; and Tenrick Thompson in the 35th minute.
Shavar Blake led Barracks Road Primary with a hat-trick as he scored in the fifth, 24th and 45th minutes. Giovanni Graham scored in the 55th minute and Shakeem Blake scored in the fifth and 60th minute while Joshua Foster scored Maldon’s lone goal.
In the other game played on Wednesday, Chetwood Primary and Albion played out a 1-1 draw. Kevin Porter gave Chetwood the lead in the 25th minute before Davian Hines equalised for Albion in the 56th minute.
