Cabbie drives himself to hospital after being shot in neck during attack
ST CATHERINE, Jamaica — A St Catherine taxi operator narrowly escaped death after an armed passenger opened fire at him during a commute in the parish on Friday.
According to police reports, the driver was travelling on Young Street in Spanish Town when a passenger reportedly removed a firearm from his waistband and opened fire, hitting him in the neck.
Reports are that the injured cabbie managed to drive the motor car into a barrier, which subsequently ejected the gunman from the vehicle. He then drove himself to the hospital.
He was treated and admitted in serious but stable condition.
The gunman reportedly fled on foot in the area.
The police were summoned and the motor car was inspected. One Smith and Wesson magazine containing eight (8) .40 cartridges reportedlt found on the floor behind the driver’s seat.
Investigations continue.
