Magnum All-Star Sound Clash heads into final showdown
After 11 weeks of nail biting sound clashes, the Magnum All-Star Sound Clash will culminate Saturday at Ocean Boulevard in downtown Kingston.
The finalists, Echo One and Five-Star General, will go head to head in competing for the coveted title of Baddest Sound System in Jamaica.
The Magnum sponsored event has displayed weeks of musical talents on the turntables and crowd engagement by Jamaica’s best sound systems. In keeping the dancehall culture alive, the sound clash has pulled out Jamaicans from near and far, with their vuvuzelas, pot covers and tree limbs, to cheer on the hottest sound system each Friday night at the All-Star Headquarters in Olympic Way.
Throughout the 10 weeks, eight sound systems, including Ruff Cut, Twin Star, Five Star, Rode Code, Black Magic, Echo One, Unruly Stumpy and Rispec Jam,went up against each other, vying for the million-dollar cash prize, a trophy and the winner’s title.
Magnum Tonic Wine went on board for the project in support of brand dancehall. Kamal Powell, Regional Marketing Manager for the brand, said.
Powell expressed that the Magnum team is thrilled about the partnership and is in awe of the support received over the past few weeks.
“Magnum is excited to be a part of this competition. Magnum is the most authentic brand in the dancehall, therefore it was a no brainer to join in putting together this vibrant competition. We envision a spectacular face-off on Friday as the two teams battle for the top spot, and we look forward to continuing this successful partnership in years to come” he shared.
Stumping out their competitor in semi-final one, the St Thomas and London-based, Five-Star
General will confront the Portmore-based Echo One, who martialed Rispec Jam out of the competition in semi-final two.
The two teams will go head to head in a riveting five rounds of lyrical prowess to determine the best and baddest sound system in Jamaica.
“It has been a joy to witness the level of support we’ve gotten from Jamaicans over the past 11 weeks. This competition is important to me because it showcases an aspect of Jamaican culture that is often misunderstood. At the end of it all, contestants are afforded international opportunities, which benefits them, their families and the Jamaican community at large. I must express immense gratitude to the Magnum team and all our other sponsors, for extending a hand to make this event a success,” stated Cheiftin Campbell, co-promoter.
The winning sound will be awarded a Magnum Tonic Wine powered cash prize of $1 million, a trophy and the title of ‘Baddest Sound System’.
The Magnum All-Star Sound Clash final will kick-off at 10pm sharp and tickets will be available at the gate for $1,000.
