Moore Town Maroon election fuss heats up
PORTLAND, Jamaica – The Portland police say they will ensure the safety of all parties concerned if the May 8 selection of a new chief of the Moore Town Maroons goes ahead as planned.
Superintendent Kenneth Chin, who is in charge of the Portland Division, provided an update a short while ago.
The issue of the pending selection has been mired in controversy with the sitting Moore Town Chief, Colonel Wallace Sterling, questioning the validity of ongoing efforts to call an election.
Sterling has been the chief for the Moore Town Maroons since 1995.
His challenger is 18-year-old Lomorra ‘Hope’ Dillon, who is said to have the support of Accompong Maroon Chief Colonel Richard Currie, dancehall artiste Mark “Buju Banton” Myrie and other influential individuals and groups within the Maroon community.
