Navasky Anderson breaks 800m national record, qualifies for World Champs

KINGSTON, Jamaica – Navasky Anderson broke his own Jamaican national record in the men’s 800m after he ran 1:44.70 seconds to place second at the DC Track Championships in Fairfax, Virginia on Sunday.

He has earned qualification to the World Athletics Championships which is slated for August in Budapest, Hungary.

Anderson, who suffered through an injury-plagued season, just qualified for the championships, making the World Athletics qualifying standard hours before the qualifying window closes at midnight on Sunday. He ran the exact time needed to earn qualification.

The former Mississippi State runner broke his own national record of 1:45.02 seconds set last year when he also qualified for the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

A week ago he ran 1:45.70 seconds, then his second best time at the Under Armour Sunset Tour in Los Angeles.

On Sunday, he was second behind Edose Ibadin who ran 1:44.65 seconds while John Rivera was third in 1:45.29 seconds.
