Nine examination depots get exhaust emission analyzer
KINGSTON, Jamaica – A commissioning ceremony was held this morning at the Harbour View Examination Depot by the Island Traffic Authority (ITA) in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and Mining for the launch of the exhaust emission analyzer.
The instrument was dispatched in nine examination depots island-wide and the remainder will be received in short order.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, Transport and Mining Minister, Audley Shaw said that the testing of exhaust is not to penalise motorists. “I must remind you that testing your emission is not for any prosecutorial action so don’t be afraid to get your vehicle tested when you visit the examination depot that have the tool in their possession,” he said.
Shaw added that the launch of the emission analyzers forms only a small part of the plans going forward for ITA. The device will be used to test total hydrocarbon content, non-methane hydrocarbon monoxide, and nitrogen oxide. The emission test further determines the level of air pollutant emitted from the exhaust of a motor vehicle.
