Police seize cocaine worth J$15m in Portland
PORTLAND, Jamaica— A woman is in custody after the Portland police seized two kilograms of cocaine at Norwich in the parish Saturday afternoon.
The police reported that they carried out a targeted raid Saturday, April 30, 2022 in the district of Norwich in search of firearms and illegal drugs. During the raid a premises was searched and two parcels of substance resembling cocaine were found. The woman was arrested on reasonable suspicion of being in possession of cocaine.
The seized cocaine has an estimated street value of J$15 million, the police said.
Superintendent Kenneth Chin, in charge of Portland said in a release that, “The Portland police in collaboration with Area 2 Narcotics are committed to doing our part in dismantling this leg of the Guns for Drugs Trade which is operating in the parish of Portland.”
“I thank the team that participated in this operation and all the members of the Portland Police Division for their continued policing efforts which are reaping success. We urge the citizens of Portland to continue to work with us as we make all efforts to make Portland the safest place in Jamaica,” he added.
