Rajindra Campbell smashes national shot put record, qualifies for World Champs
KINGSTON, Jamaica – Rajindra Campbell smashed the Jamaican national record in the men’s shot put on Saturday after he won the event with a massive personal best of 22.22m at the Meet de Madrid, a World Athletics Continental Tour- Silver event.
Campbell, whose previous best was 21.31m set in May in Tucson, Arizona, broke the previous national record of 21.96m set in 2017 by O’Dayne Richards.
He has also surpassed the qualifying mark of 21.40m and is now tied for third in the world with New Zealand’s Tom Walsh and only behind the American pair of Ryan Crouser – 23.56m and Jope Kovacs- 22.69m.
Meanwhile, Julian Forte was second in the men’s 200m in a season’s best 20.35 seconds (-0.9m/s).
