Sangster International Airport to conduct full-scale emergency exercise
MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica — The management at the Sangster International Airport (SIA), operated by MBJ Airports Limited, is advising the public that a full-scale emergency exercise simulation will see an increase in the movement of emergency response vehicles between Flanker Main Road and the Whitehouse community on Wednesday, November 09 between the hours of 7:00 am and 9:00 am.
According to a release on Monday, pursuant to the Airport’s Emergency Plan, the exercise will simulate an aircraft incident occurring over water and will test the ability and evaluate the effectiveness of the Airport’s Emergency Response System, in coordination with its mutual aid partners and other primary response agencies.
SIA is therefore encouraging the public to proceed with caution along the above-named thoroughfare as emergency response vehicles are expected to traverse the area to conduct the exercise as if it were a real-life scenario.
Local media will not be able to access the incident area, similar to an actual event. The Media is, however, welcome to meet at the airport Media Room at Arrivals upper level. A representative from MBJ’s Commercial Department will be available to provide background information, briefings, as well as to answer any questions as the scenario unfolds.
MBJ Airports Limited (MBJ), as a part of Jamaica Civil Aviation Authority (JCAA) and the International Civil Aviation Authority (ICAO) requirements, is mandated to conduct a full-scale aerodrome emergency exercise biennially.
