Three Jamaicans killed in fiery five-vehicle crash in Cayman
A fiery five-vehicle crash has claimed the lives of three Jamaicans who were living and working in the Cayman Islands.
The Royal Cayman Islands Police Service (RCIPS) said the tragic accident took place about 12:15 Monday morning on Shamrock Road, near Coral Bay Village. The area is a known crash hotspot.
The Cayman Compass has identified the victims as 41-year-old Shakara Stewart; 30-year-old Junior Whittaker’ and Vinroy ‘Fletcher’ Grant, 53.
Family and friends of Stewart participated in a candlelight vigil in her memory Thursday evening.
Two other individuals were hospitalised.
According to reports, the Jamaicans were travelling in a black Honda Fit motorcar, one of two vehicles that burst into flames.
A black Honda Accord and a white Toyota Tundra were two of the other vehicles involved in the deadly crash. The Tundra also caught fire.
The Jamaicans were pronounced dead at the scene and the police are appealing for information that may help them determine what caused the crash.
Monday’s crash was the third fatal collision on Cayman’s roads this year, claiming a total of five lives.
