Sean Paul mines gold in Germany
Sean Paul racked up three gold certifications in Germany for the month of December 2022.
A report released by the Federal Music Industry Association, also known as Bundesverband Musikindustrie (BVMI), which certifies singles and albums in Germany, revealed that the Jamaican deejay’s ‘No Lie’ (featuring Dua Lipa) was certified 3x gold, while ‘Baby Boy’ (with Beyonce) and ‘Breathe’ (with Blu Cantrell) were certified gold.
‘No Lie’, released in 2016, was included on Sean Paul’s 2018 EP Mad Love: The Prequel as well as Dua Lipa’s Dua Lipa: Complete Edition (2018). The song made the Top 10 of charts in the United Kingdom, Scotland, Russia, Romania, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Hungary, India and Netherlands.
Its 3x gold certification in Germany is equivalent to 600,000 units culled from streaming and sales.
‘No Lie’ was previously certified gold in Austria and Denmark; and platinum in Canada, Netherlands, and Portugal. It has been certified diamond in France, 3x platinum in Poland and 2x platinum in the United Kingdom.
‘Baby Boy’, now certified gold for sales exceeding 150,000 units in Germany, was first issued on Beyonce’s debut solo project Dangerously In Love in 2003. It was also included on a revised version of Sean’s Dutty Rock album. The single scaled to the top of the US Billboard Hot 100, while hitting the top 10 in Sweden, Spain, Norway, Switzerland, Canada, France, Denmark, Belgium and Australia.
It previously earned platinum status in the United States and Canada, 2x platinum in Australia and gold in the United Kingdom.
‘Breathe’, which has now been certified gold for sales and streaming equivalent exceeding 150,000 units in Germany, is a single off singer Blu Cantrell’s 2003 album Bittersweet. It topped the UK singles chart for four weeks in the summer of 2003.
The song got as far as number 70 on the Billboard Hot 100 but became a monster hit in Europe, scaling charts in Switzerland, Scotland, Romania, Norway, Netherlands, Ireland, Hungary, Denmark, Croatia and Australia. The single was previously certified gold in Australia and Norway and 2x platinum in the United Kingdom.
