Teenager charged after brandishing gun in school fight
KINGSTON, Jamaica — Law enforcers are today crediting swift action by police assigned to the Kingston Central division, in the apprehension of a 17-year-old boy who reportedly assaulted another, brandishing a firearm in the process.
Reports are that sometime after 11:00 am, a student was allegedly seen being assaulted by the 17-year-old when a female student intervened and asked him to stop. The female student was reportedly hit in the face. She retaliated and the 17-year-old reportedly brandishing a firearm. He was apprehended hours later and was subsequently taken into custody.
He was charged with using a firearm to commit a scheduled offence, being in possession of a prohibited weapon, assault occasioning bodily harm and assault at common law.
A search of his home was carried out on Wednesday, June 28. The search yielded an APX Beretta 9mm pistol with a magazine containing eight 9mm rounds of ammunition.
The boy was then charged with unauthorised possession of a prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.
His court date is being finalised.
