Thousands left in darkness due to power outage

Thousands of people across the island were left in darkness Saturday evening after a power outage.

Light and power company Jamaica Public Service company (JPS) explained in a statement that the loss of power was “due to load shedding following a sudden loss of generating units”.

While power has been restored to some customers, there are many who are still in the dark. However, JPS stated that full restoration is in progress.

“Gradual restoration is currently in progress with full restoration expected within the next hour,” the power company said in the advisory.
