#World Champs: Hyde to represent Jamaica in 400m Hurdles Final
EUGENE, Oregon- National champion Jaheel Hyde, will be the lone Jamaican to contest the final of the men’s 400 metres hurdles at the Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon.
Jaheel Hyde ran a brilliant race out of lane eight in semi-final one to finish second behind the Tokyo Olympic silver medallist, Rai Benjamin of the United States. Hyde clocked 49.09 seconds, while Benjamin ran 48.44 seconds.
His compatriot, Kemar Mowatt, finished fourth in semi-final three in a time of 48.59 seconds. However, he missed out on the non-automatic qualifying spot. His race was won by the world record holder, Karsten Warholm, who clocked a season’s best time of 48.00 seconds.
The other Jamaican, Shawn Rowe, who lined up in lane two in semi-final two, could only manage an eighth place finish in a time of 49.80 seconds. As a result, Rowe will not make an appearance in the final of the event.
The men’s 400 metres hurdles final will take place on Tuesday, July 19 at 9:50pm Jamaica time.
