Our football future is in good hands
Dear Editor,
I watched the Manning Cup final between Jamaica College (JC) and St Andrew Technical High School (STATHS) on TV on Friday night. I have also been watching several World Cup matches.
I am fully convinced that the standard of play exhibited by the schoolboys was as good as and, in many instances, more entertaining than that which is being exhibited by the international teams.
The game was played at a remarkably rapid pace throughout and there was minimal body contact, accurate passes, and fair play resulting in only one yellow card being shown, as I can recall, resulting in very little stoppage time.
It is a pity that one side had to lose as both performed so well.
What was displayed on Friday night augurs well for the future of football in Jamaica if the standards can be kept up and the good coaching continues.
