MONTEGO BAY, St James — A mother wept openly in court on Tuesday as the prosecution presented its case against Mark Williams, the man alleged to have killed her son, Lavin James.

As the prosecution and defence discussed her son’s untimely demise the distraught mother’s uncontrollable sobs filled the courtroom where there was an overwhelming sense of sorrow.

Williams, who is charged with murder and shooting with intent, appeared before high court Judge Bertram Morrison in the St James Circuit.

The 24-year-old man is being represented by attorneys-at-law Sherneika Jackson and Dalton Reid.

During Tuesday’s hearing the court was told that the prosecution’s case file was still incomplete with a number of items outstanding.

The judge adjourned the case until April 5, 2024 to allow for the prosecution to gather the remaining items.

The incident reportedly occurred at Timber Close in Irwin, St James, on July 2, 2022. The allegations are that Williams fired shots at the deceased outside his home, resulting in his tragic death. Another person who was present at the scene was injured.

The police subsequently launched an investigation that led to Williams’ arrest.
