Jerk chicken vendor wants smaller ‘bill’ for 59 stitches
MONTEGO BAY, St James – Jerk chicken vendor Delroy Gordon who allegedly almost severed the ear of another vendor during a quarrel is hoping the medical certificate will shed some light on just how much compensation he will have to pay the wounded man.
His lawyer, Chumu Paris, asked for access to the document when the case was brought before the St James Parish Court on Tuesday.
Gordon was initially charged with wounding with intent, but the charge was reduced to unlawful wounding when both parties agreed to resolve the matter through restorative justice. However, as established during a previous court appearance, talks broke down after Gordon baulked at the proposed sum he was being asked to pay.
On Tuesday, Paris advised the court that he needs to peruse the medical certificate in order to properly advise his client.
Presiding Parish Judge Sasha-Marie Smith-Ashley subsequently rescheduled the case for mention on April 13 to allow the prosecution time to secure the medical certificate. Gordon’s bail was extended.
