UWI student found dead in dorm given big send-off
SCORES of family members and friends turned out at Fellowship Tabernacle in St Andrew on Saturday to pay their final respects to Kareem Anthonio Medley, the 21-year-old student of The University of the West Indies (The UWI) who was found dead in his room on the Elsa Leo-Rhynie Hall of residence on March 8.
Medley, better known as Aaron to the people of his Kingston 20 community of Maverley, died suddenly from epilepsy.
He was remembered at the funeral as “generous to a fault. Aaron was always driven to offer assistance whenever it was needed”.
He was eulogised as soft-spoken to the point of almost seeming shy, but who came to life whenever he was offering a word of encouragement, a helping hand, or just a shoulder to cry on.
At the time of his passing Medley was serving as publications committee chairman and public relations officer for the Elsa Leo-Rhynie Hall at The UWI, Mona campus, and as lead producer of the programme WomanUp on Newstalk 93FM.
He also served the Jamaica Combined Cadet Force as marketing and communications officer from 2015 to 2021.
Medley also made a name for himself as a passionate youth advocate determined to help, particularly, young males with improving their personal brand, etiquette and personal development.
