Belair, Tacky blow away opponents in goal sprees

CROSS KEYS, Manchester – Belair High and Tacky High both scored eight goals as they got their ISSA/Wata daCosta Cup season off on a high on Tuesday, beating Cross Keys High and Carron Hall High, respectively.

BB Coke High were also in a rampant mood beating Roger Clarke High 6-0, while former champions St Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), as well as Manchester High and deCarteret College, were also off to winning starts.

Meanwhile, Ben Francis KO holders Glenmuir High will make their first appearance of the season on Wednesday when they play Old Harbour High in a Zone L game at Port Esquivel.

Fourteen games are scheduled to be played today, including four former winners as Garvey Maceo High take on Foga Road; St James High are away to Green Pond High; Cornwall College play away to Maldon High, and Dinthill Technical host McGrath High in the second game of a double-header at Dinthill.

Mannings School, semi-finalists in the last two seasons, will play away to Black River High and will hope to get off to a fast start against a team they scored 11 goals against in two games last season.

Irwin High, who won Zone A for the first time last season and were unbeaten in the first round, will hope to pick up from where they left off when they host Spot Valley High.

Tacky High, who got past the first round for the first time last year, ran past Carron Hall 8-0 with Giovanni McLean scoring the season’s first hat-trick, while Romario Gibbs and Deandre Jackson got two each with Robert Cain scoring the other.

At Cross Keys, Christian Henry and Orlando Gray scored two goals each for Belair High in one of their largest margins of win ever, an 8-1 result over the hosts who were returning to the competition after a few years away.

Ajwani Wauchope, Raimi Smith, Daniel Brown and Miguel Harrison also scored for Belair while Ravi Robinson got Cross Keys’ only goal.

STETHS got goals from Najay Brown and Deandre Hibbert as they rolled past neighbours Lacovia High in Zone E where the other two games, Munro College against Maggotty High and Newell High against Sydney Pagon both ended in 1-1 draws.

DeCarteret College were 3-0 winners over Mt St Josephs with Giovanni Anderson, Raheem Russell and Andrew Simpson scoring.

Titchfield High blanked Fair Prospect 2-0, Diantte Gibbs scoring from the penalty spot in the 66th minute and Cardiff McKenzie adding a second in the 75th minute.

Merlene Ottey High who were beaten 3-1 on Saturday by Frome Technical, rebounded to beat Cambridge High 4-0 as the losers lost back-to-back games after missing the last four seasons.

Petersfield High edged Grange Hill 1-0 at Llandilo Sports Complex, while Cedric Titus were 5-1 winners over Ferncourt High and Manchester High were 4-0 winners over May Day High.
