Brinks hard nut to crack in today’s headliner
Despite a strong field of 16 runners, with more than half of the horses having a chance to win, the race conditions and distance of six and a half furlongs (1,300m) fit Brinks perfectly to land the $1.14-million, top-rated, Restricted Overnight Allowance contest that headlines today’s 10-race programme at Caymanas Park.
Brinks, trained by newly licensed conditioner Peter-John Parsard, son of prominent racehorse trainer Ian Parsard, is the morning line favourite to win this event for three-year-olds and above who have never won an Overnight Allowance race.
Brinks, a four-year-old bay gelding bred by Bern Identity – Iandian Bluff, was favoured to win in all four of his starts at the level, but the far-striding runner failed to reach the winners’ enclosure. Brinks had finished second twice, third once, and fifth once as the 4/5, 8/5, 2/5, and 2/5 favourites, respectively.
Brinks has performed exceedingly well in preparation for this race, his fourth of the season, clocking 48.2 seconds galloping beside the highly-decorated Mahogany over four furlongs (800m) on Sunday, July 2. Brinks, on the other hand, was ridden out during that workout.
Brinks appears to be in good form, and considering his galloping style, he should put this race in the bag. Omar Walker has been called up to undertake the riding honours, taking over for champion jockey Dane Dawkins.
The race is positioned as the final event on the day with a post time of 5:15 pm. First race is at 11:45 am.
Power, Stomp The Rhythm, Champion Bubbler, Freedom Street, and Outbidder are all worthy contenders.
Power, trained by Philip Feanny, returned from a four-month layoff on June 25 to finish third behind Further and Beyond over seven-and-a-half furlongs (1,500m). With that run behind him, the four-year-old chestnut should be a threat here.
Stomp The Rhythm, trained by Vincent Atkinson, has done well in his two starts at this level so far. Stomp The Rhythm took second and third in his previous two races, and another strong performance is predicted from him here.
Champion Bubbler, an American-bred racehorse, has finished fifth in both of his starts in this company. However, she is a brilliant filly, and given her running style, Champion Bubbler is predicted to have a significant impact on the outcome of this event.
Freedom Street, who has five races under his belt at this level, may be able to use his experience and speed to his advantage today and slip adversaries on his route to victory. The four-year-old bay gelding should be on the forefront from the start; whether or not he will stop is unknown.
Outbidder enters this race after finishing fifth in an Open Allowance event on June 24. The Jason DaCosta trainee has previously raced at this level five times without producing anything worthwhile, but she has trained well and is expected to be competitive throughout the race.
Power Ranking, Green Gold Rush, Ring Charmer, and Charmin Beauty are all potential runners who can have a say.
