Myles breaks own indoor championship record
Salieci Myles broke her own championship record in the women’s 60m hurdles, while there were wins for her William Carey teammate Machaeda Linton and Geovanni Hawes of Life University at Monday’s Southern States Indoor Championships held at the Birmingham Crossplex, Alabama.
The championships were held in conjunction with the Sun Conference Indoor Championships, both for National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) schools.
Myles won the hurdles event in an NAIA leading and personal best 8.35 seconds, beating the 8.44 she ran last year. She was fourth in the women’s 200 in 25.34.
Linton, formerly of St Jago High, won the women’s long jump with an indoor personal best and NAIA leading 5.91m. Linton was second in the triple jump with 11.79m and ran a personal best 7.65 in the 60m final to place fifth.
Fredricka McKenzie of William Carey was second in the women’s 60m in 7.51.
Hawes, formerly of Calabar High, won the men’s shot put with a championship record 14.29m, well over the previous mark of 12.40m set last year.
Hawes was also third in the men’s weight throw with a best of 13.76m.
At the Sun Conference championships, Monique Brown of Florida International was second in the women’s 800m in 2:23.66 minutes.
