Scorpions look to end campaign on high
Jamaica Scorpions will be looking to end the 2022 regional four-day cricket campaign on a high when they take on title contenders Leeward Islands Hurricanes in fifth-round action starting today.
The first ball is scheduled to be bowled 10:00 am (9:00 am Jamaica time) at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad and Tobago.
The John Campbell-captained Scorpions, who have no chance at claiming the winners’ trophy, are fifth in the six-team table with 37.8 points entering the final round. The Hurricanes, who have done exceptionally well to push reigning champions and league leaders Barbados Pride (67 points), are second, with 65.4 points.
Guyana Harpy Eagles have 51.4 points for third, followed by fourth-placed Trinidad and Tobago Red Force (47.2), and cellar team Windward Islands Volcanoes (21 points).
The Scorpions have been in decent form of late, rebounding from tough opening losses to the Red Force and the Pride to defeat the winless Volcanoes and draw with the Harpy Eagles.
But the Hurricanes have been impressive in all facets of the game to register three wins in their four outings and start clear favourites against the Scorpions.
In other matches beginning today, the Volcanoes are set to face the Pride at Diego Martin Sporting Complex, while the Red Force are to welcome the Harpy Eagles to Queen’s Park Oval.
Since the end of the second round, all matches have been staged in Trinidad and Tobago.
