Three former champs into Ben Francis quarters
Former champions Rusea’s High, Glenmuir High, and Garvey Maceo High advanced to the quarter-finals of the ISSA Ben Francis Cup yesterday.
Rusea’s High had the biggest margin on the day, beating Christiana High 5-1 at the Collin Miller Sports Complex, Glenmuir High were 2-0 winners over Paul Bogle High, who finished with eight players at York Oval, while Garvey Maceo High were 3-1 winners over Cornwall College at Garvey Maceo.
In the other game, York Castle eliminated St Elizabeth Technical, winning 2-1 at Drax Hall.
In next Thursday’s quarter-finals the first-round winners will meet the teams that were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the daCosta Cup on Tuesday. Garvey Maceo will face defending champions Edwin Allen High, Glenmuir High faces Frome Technical, York Castle takes on Dinthill Technical, and Rusea’s High will meet William Knibb Memorial.
Shamour Smith scored twice for Rusea’s High as they beat Christiana High 5-1 with Terome Morgan, Deonjay Brown, and Chadwyck Campbell scoring the other goals.
The win came at an expense as Morgan was taken to hospital with a suspected broken leg.
Paul Bogle High finished with eight players after three players were sent off in the second half of their 2-0 loss to Glenmuir High, who got goals from Orane Watson and David Reid.
Cleo Clarke scored twice for Garvey Maceo High and Nevaughn Myrie got the other in their 3-1 win over Cornwall College.
