We played our style of football, says Maxwell

KEVIN Lamey’s early strike and Irvino English’s

second-half penalty carried Waterhouse to a 2-0 win over former leaders Harbour View in an entertaining fixture in the Digicel Premier League at the Harbour View mini-stadium on Sunday.

The Geoffrey Maxwell-coached side remains unbeaten with three wins in four matches in this round, and he is a happy man.

“I though we played a good game, we played our style of football… our passing and movement off the ball were good and I cannot add much criticism to our display,” he said.

Many spectators had barely taken their seats when Lamey latched onto a pass from midfield and squeezed a shot through the fingers of Dwayne Miller to put the visitors up after seven minutes.

But Jermaine Hue, who was having a masterful game for the host, provided Rafiek Thomas with a sitter three minutes later, but his soft redirection failed to trouble Richard McCallum in the Waterhouse goal.

Lamey had a wonderful opportunity to make it 2-0 when he sprung the offside trap in the 13th minute, but with only Miller to beat, the marksman put his effort wide of the target from six yards.

In the 18th minute, Kenardo Forbes then came close for Waterhouse with a rasping left-footed shot from the edge of the box.

After that Lamey had another chance to score, but his effort was blocked by Miller.

Harbour View’s Lovell Palmer then headed over the cross bar from close-range after coming out on top during a squabble for the ball in 38th minute.

But Waterhouse responded with a fierce shot from Vincent Earl in the 43rd minute after a good through ball from Forbes.

Waterhouse came into their own after the hour mark and got a break in he 65th minute when English combined with Forbes down the left, but the former was cut down by Richard Edwards as he prepared to strike at goal.

The former Waterhouse captain then calmly scored the 12-yard

spot kick.

Staring defeat in the face, Harbour View refused to surrender and kept up their goalward industry.

Harbour View coach Donovan Hayles conceded that Waterhouse was the better team.

“We weren’t pressing enough and we didn’t get our attacking flow… but when you are being outplayed like how we were tonight (Sunday) you cannot be too disappointed,” he said.

Harbour View — Dwayne Miller, Jaron Richards (John-Ross Edwards 82nd), Montrose Phinn, Daveion Woodhouse, Lovel Palmer, Marcelino Blackburn, Richard Edwards, Jermaine Hue, Rafiek Thomas (Andre Fagan 63rd), Denzil Watson (Ranique Muir 67th).
