Wallpaper by the Poolside

Who’d have thunk it? When we think of wallpapers, we typically picture them adorning the interior walls of our homes. However, there’s a growing trend that’s taking the design world by storm: using wallpapers outdoors, particularly by the poolside. This innovative and creative application of wallpaper not only adds a touch of elegance and style to your outdoor spaces but also transforms your pool area into a breathtaking oasis.

On the tail end of COVID, I received a call from the Courtleigh Hotel, ready for a revamp in preparation for reopening. We started with the lobby, with a bold tropical print that brightened up the space and welcomed guests to the hotel. But it was the bold choice to add a beautiful wallpaper mural to the pool bar that really excited me. The mural they chose was the perfect design element to balance and finish the entire space.

Outdoor wallpapers offer some really great advantages. For one, their aesthetic appeal: One of the primary reasons for using wallpapers outdoors is their ability to enhance the overall aesthetic of your outdoor space. Outdoor wallpapers come in a wide range of designs, patterns, and colours, allowing you to create a unique and visually stunning environment. Whether you prefer a tropical paradise, a classic Mediterranean feel, or a modern and sleek look, there’s a wallpaper design to suit your taste.

In terms of maintenance, modern outdoor wallpapers are designed to withstand the elements. They are typically made from durable materials like vinyl or weather-resistant fabric that can endure rain, sun, and wind, and maintenance usually involves a quick wipe down with a damp cloth to remove dirt or debris. Unlike traditional wall paint, outdoor wallpapers are less likely to peel, fade, or crack over time.

Wallpapers have the remarkable ability to instantly transform a space. By choosing the right wallpaper pattern, you can create a theme that complements your outdoor furniture, landscaping, and pool design. This allows you to achieve a cohesive and harmonious look that ties everything together.

The newly renovated poolside at the Pegasus also received a bold and tropical facelift using wallpaper. The bold print forms the backdrop for this fun and cosy lounge area, complete with swings and lounge chairs.

When selecting outdoor wallpapers, consider the following factors:

Durability: Ensure that the wallpaper is designed specifically for outdoor use and can withstand exposure to sun, rain, and temperature fluctuations.

Design: Choose a design that complements your existing outdoor decor, such as furniture, plants, and pool tiles. Think about the overall theme you want to achieve.

Colour palette: The colour of the wallpaper should harmonise with the surroundings and evoke the desired mood. Light and pastel shades can create a serene atmosphere, while bold and vibrant colours can make a statement.

Maintenance: Opt for wallpapers that are easy to clean and maintain. This will ensure that your outdoor space looks beautiful year round.

Installation: Consider hiring a professional installer to ensure a flawless application, especially if you’re using custom or intricate designs.

Outdoor wallpapers have opened up exciting possibilities for transforming your outdoor spaces into luxurious retreats. So, why limit your love for wallpapers to the indoors? Take your creativity and design aspirations beyond the walls of your home and transform your outdoor area.
