Man caught with dozens of cocaine pellets to be sentenced
KINGSTON, Jamaica — A 38-year-old man is awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to drug offences in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court on Tuesday.
Ricardo Muir’s attorney had initially entreated Senior Parish Judge Sanchia Burrell to send his client to the drug treatment court, which focuses on the treatment rather than trial of drug users.
However, the prosecution indicated that the man had been found with 78 pellets of cocaine weighing a pound in total.
After consultation with his attorney, the man pleaded guilty to possession and dealing in cocaine, but not guilty to a charge of attempting to export cocaine.
In explaining the export charge, the prosecution said that when he had been apprehended with the drugs around 1:00 am on May 23rd this year, he told officers, while under caution, that he had gotten the drugs from someone to give to someone else to take abroad.
He is to be sentenced on February 27, 2026.
