2023 Summer Wedding Guest Attire

As summer blooms with its warmth (more like blazing heat), it signals the start of the summer wedding season. If you’re attending a summer wedding and aiming to make a stylish statement, it’s essential to stay on top of the latest trends in guest attire whilst trying to stay cool. A small, but not insignificant part of the typical mindset of wedding guests is attire. Weekends in July to September will likely see a plethora of wedding-adjacent events — engagement parties, bridal showers, bachelorette weekends — in addition to the wedding itself. All with specific dress codes. Naturally, much outfit planning is expected, with the wedding day outfit of course being the biggest commitment.

Let’s explore some of the hottest trends for summer wedding guest outfits this season. These three trends are a great place to start — puffed sleeves, cut-outs and halter necklines. The best dresses go according to the location and vibe: sleeveless linen for hot outdoor weddings, floor-length gowns for indoor black-tie events, and a chic cocktail dress for weddings that go straight into the party.

Floral Finesse: Floral prints are always a favourite for summer weddings, and this year they’ve received a contemporary update. Choose dresses, jumpsuits, or separates adorned with bold, oversized blooms or intricate botanical patterns. Maxi dresses with floral motifs are particularly popular, exuding elegance and grace.

Statement Sleeves: This summer, it’s all about the sleeves. Look for dresses or tops with dramatic puffed sleeves, bell sleeves, or ruffled details. These statement sleeves add an element of flair and personality to your ensemble while keeping you cool in the summer heat.

Jumpsuit Sophistication: Ditch the traditional dress and embrace the modern elegance of jumpsuits. They have become increasingly popular for summer weddings, offering a chic and sophisticated alternative. Choose a jumpsuit in a light and breathable fabric.

Sheer Delights: Sheer fabrics are a captivating choice for summer wedding guest attire. Embrace the allure of delicate lace or ethereal chiffon to create a romantic and sophisticated ensemble.

Cut-outs: A subtle back cut-out strikes me as an immediate “yes” for weddings. It’s no surprise that cut-outs are making their way into the spotlight as we head into summer 2023. Warm weather offers the perfect excuse to show a little skin, and a side or midriff cut-out can be an excellent way to do so. The options are virtually endless when it comes to cut-outs. They can be sweet and subtle, like a keyhole slit, for instance, or more daring, like side slits that extend into an open back.

Halter Necks: With nostalgia taking over the Internet, throwback styles like halter necks are quickly making their way back onto the scene. The ’70s-inspired trend was practically made for summer, as it’s often paired with an open back for a lightweight, breathable feel. Plus, halter necks show off the shoulders, making them great for an outdoor wedding this summer.

As you prepare to attend one of the many summer weddings planned for the season don’t be afraid to step outside the traditional boundaries and embrace the latest trends. Whether you opt for florals, statement sleeves, jumpsuits, sheer fabrics, or metallic accents, remember to choose an outfit that reflects your personal style and makes you feel confident.

Embrace the trend of summer weddings because it’s all about the sleeves, be it billowy balloon sleeves, ruffles, or chic off-the-shoulder designs. (Photo: poshmark.com)
