Woman shot dead

A 24 year old woman was shot dead by unknown assailant(s) at Harmony Hall, Highgate, St Mary, Sunday night, the police reported yesterday.

She has been identified as Marcia Barnes, otherwise called “Tricia” of Harmony Hall.

The Constabulary Communication Network (CCN) reported that at about 11:05 pm, Barnes was heard shouting for help. Shortly after, explosions were heard.

The police were summoned and on their arrival, Barnes’ body was found with a gunshot wound to the head in a yard in the community, according to the CCN. The body was removed to the morgue for post mortem.

The Highgate police who are investigating, say that Barnes, who operated a shop in the district had just locked up her establishment prior to the shots being heard.

Body found in canal

THE decomposing body of an unidentified man was found in an irrigation canal near the Spanish Town Bypass in St Catherine on Sunday.

The body, which was clad in blue jeans pants and plaid shirt, is of dark complexion, medium built, about 177.8 centimetres (5ft 10 ins) tall with dreadlocks hairstyle.

The CCN reported that at about 7:00 am a resident was reportedly walking along the canal bank when he saw the body. The police were alerted and on their arrival, the body was seen floating in the canal. A post mortem revealed that death was caused by drowning.

Suspected suicide in High House

THE body of a 52-year-old man was found hanging by a length of rope from the roof of his house at High House district, near Old Harbour, St Catherine on Sunday.

The dead man has been identified as Winston Williams.

According to the CCN, at about 1:35 pm Williams’ wife returned home and found his body hanging from a beam in the roof of the house. It was removed to the morgue for post mortem.

The Old Harbour police who are investigating suspect suicide.

Policeman injured

A detective corporal stationed at the Castleton Police Station in St Mary was injured during a confrontation with a man at Howard Cooke Boulevard, Montego Bay, St James on Sunday. The man has since been charged.

Charged with unlawful wounding, assault and malicious destruction of property is Daniel Dawkins, a 30-year-old taxi operator of Catherine Hall, Montego Bay.

The CCN’s St James liaison officer reported that at about 2:00 pm, the policeman was reportedly at a businessplace at Howard Cooke Boulevard when an altercation reportedly developed between him and Dawkins. During the confrontation, a knife was reportedly used to cut the policeman on the face.

The lawman reportedly pulled his service pistol and during an ensuing struggle a round was discharged in the air. The lawman then reportedly drove off in his motorcar. Dawkins then reportedly used his motorcar and crashed into the policeman’s vehicle.

Following investigations by the Montego Bay Police, Dawkins was arrested and charged.

CHRISTOPHER Elletson, also known as Christopher Brown, 35, of Princess Street, Montego Bay, was Sunday arrested following the seizure of three motor vehicles at Round Hill Estate in Hanover.
