Cocktails with…

Style Observer

Chief Technical Director in the Ministry of Water and Housing Heather Pinnock is undeniably a “carnival baby”. She’s sitting in Bin 26 sipping the sweet stuff, expertly juggling BlackBerrys and entertaining our questions all at the same time… here’s what she has to say.

What are you sipping?

White Moose Riesling 2007.

What do you love most about Bin 26?

It reminds me of a wine bar called More Vino that my friends and I would frequent when I lived in Trinidad. We’d go after work, sip wine, eat cheese and be fabulous.

Socialite or homebody?

I’m a socialite transforming into a homebody… I’m learning how to bake (laughs).

So are you baking for the holidays?

Yes, I’m trying (laughs)… I’ll be baking gingerbread cookies.

Flats or stilettos?

Stilettos for work, and I’m not going to say flats — more like Bridget Sandals — for everything else.

What’s in your handbag?

Mac lip conditioners, lipgloss, my Coach frames, my asthma pump, BlackBerrys, my perfume for travelling — Infusion d’Iris by Prada — and my purse. Trident gum too.

What’s your style?

Classic, I believe.

What’s your essential style item?

Mascara…nothing makes your face pop like lashes.

Who does your hair?

Sandra Chen.

Who does your nails?

Charm at Sandra Chen.

What perfume are you currently splashing?

Infusion D’Iris by Prada.

TV or good book?

Book, definitely… rarely do I turn on the TV.

What are you reading?

From Third World to First World: The Singapore Story by Lee Kuan Yew.

What’s your idea of the perfect date?

Something that involves the mountains, the sunset and wines.

What’s your idea of the perfect man?

One who’s honest and willing to be supportive of the crazy things I do.

And those would be?

Like going to all these wild places and taking on much too many new projects.

Speaking of projects, what are your latest?

At work it’s Drought Mitigation Strategies, and at home I’m trying to get Christmas decorations up so that each room in my home can have some amount of holiday cheer.

What’s your latest obsession?

Twitter…it’s fab for up-to-the-minute news and I love the random stream-of-consciousness.

What’s in your car stereo?

The Best of Carnival 2009, which helps my road rage and gets me ready for Carnival 2010.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

James 1 vs 19: “Let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak and slow to anger.”

What’s your idea of happiness?

Peace of mind, a happy home and, like I said, I’m really working hard at being a converted socialite-turned-homebody so I’ll throw in a garden to nurture.

And 10 years from now?

I hope to be painting under a tree somewhere, spending lots of time with my sisters at the restaurant that we’ll open together… or is world domination a better answer?
