SAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland — The Westmoreland Football Association’s Captain’s Bakery Major League has been suspended until next week to give a number of clubs time to get their houses in order.

The FA on Monday met with the 12 participating clubs and a decision was taken to put a pause on the league to give the teams time to sort out a number of matters, including registration.

Additionally, when the league resumes next Monday, only four fields will be used as the FA has found that a number of fields “were not up to Major League standards”, according to league coordinator Devon Maxwell.

Starting next Monday, matches will be played at Frome, Bay Road Sports Complex, Petersfield Sports Complex and Little London High School.

Maxwell said it was found that the surfaces of a number of the fields were not up to standard and there was also a lack of ability to collect monies at the gates.

Meanwhile, three clubs were barred from taking part in the Major League after they were found to have been delinquent in a number of areas: Grange Hill, who were relegated from the Western Confederation Super League at the end of last season; Poolside, semi-finalists in the Major League last season; and Straths were kicked out prior to the start of the season.

Maxwell said the clubs did not send anyone to represent them at a mandatory administrative course and were also found to have no administrative structures. In the one game played so far, Russia, losers in the last two finals, and promoted Extra Flexx drew 2-2.
