My brother was murdered in Kingston on February 1996. I was a witness to his murder and the police placed me in the witness protection programme. The police rented a room for me and gave me money to pay the rent. However, I did not feel safe where I was placed so I moved to the country. I gave evidence when the accused was tried and he was found guilty and sentenced to hang.

In December 2000 I went to the United Kingdom and was given a six-month stay in the country by the immigration authorities. However, I did not return to Jamaica after the six months, but remained in the UK.

In June 2009 I applied to stay in the UK permanently. I told the Home Office that I overstayed because I was afraid that I would be killed as a result of being a witness at the trial of the man who murdered my brother.

The Home Office asked me for proof that I was in the witness protection programme. I called someone at the Ministry of National Security and he said that I should ask my solicitor to request the information. The solicitor wrote to the individual but up to now he has not responded.

I don’t know what to do as the Home Office wants me to provide this proof.

Please advise me what to do.

I applied to the Registrar General’s Department for birth certificates for my daughter and myself. I got my birth certificate but I was not at home when they came to deliver my daughter’s certificate. I went to the RGD office and they sent me to the Post Office which informed me that it was returned to the RGD.

The RGD took the information and promised to called me but I have not heard from them.

Please see what you can do to assist me.
