Many would be surprised to know how jovial Sharon Tucker can be. Her usual calm, introverted persona, belies the cheerfulness and the light-heartedness of her personality. It is small wonder therefore, that this chirp female singer is among those artistes crying out for more love at this time.

Her current single and video calling for more peace and goodwill in Jamaica in particular and the word in general titled Give A Little Love are designed for everyone to get to know her better as well as to spread the joy of loving one another.

“The concept of the song is about the need for more love. I feel like we just need more love. Everytime you listen the news everything is all about wars and conflicts. I am just kind of tired of it. We just need to focus on something that we can do something about which is love,” Sharon Tucker stressed.

As far as music is concerned, it’s all in her genes. The sister of well known gospel artistes Junior and Nikki Tucker as well as the niece of veteran tenor Jimmy Tucker, also had other releases such as Bungle A Money and Coulda.

There is also one in the making that warns about the dreaded disease, HIV AIDS called Caution. Philosophically and musically, her consistency is also noteworthy. How else would explain that one of her favourite songs is Bunny Wailer’s Pass It On, a cover of which she also recorded while providing harmony for that singer.

“I always loved that song,” said Tucker, who once helped to decorate the music of Judy Mowatt with her harmony. “It’s just the words of that song which takes me somewhere else,” enthused the singer, a former member of the female trio , Light of Love.

Apart from growing up next door to Peter Tosh in Trench Town, Tucker’s musical journey also saw her providing harmonies for Dennis Brown and Mykal Roze. Now focused on her personal development, musically, she is currently working on her third album. The previous ones are Your Love which was released in Japan on the Overheat Music label and Pass It On.

One of the most toured Jamaican entertainers, she opened for Bunny Wailer and Junior Delgado, and her voice can be heard on numerous hit songs. Tony Rebel’s Jah Is Standing By, Junior Tucker’s One of the Poorest People, Judy Mowatt’s Black Woman album, and Ini Kamoze’s Hot Stepper are just some of the unforgettable ones.

“I stopped doing background singing for awhile because I decided that it was no longer the route for me. So I decided that was enough,” said Sharon Tucker whose upcoming album is being produced by Stevie Golding and features Beres Hammond, Sly Dunbar and Dean Fraser. Most of the songs on the yet-to-be-named album are written and co-produced by her.
