From all quarters, the drums are rolling for David M
IT’S amazing how in one year, the impact new kid on the block David M has made and the attention he has been getting in his blossoming musical career. The lawyer-turned-singer who the Observer in September of last year stated was on a roll after only four months as a recording artiste, is now more firmly placed on the brink of stardom.
David M, whose video Lest We Forget from the single of the same name, was at the time about to be shown on the popular US Music Choice video channel, is now poised to gain even more exposure. The artiste, who is being courted by major labels, recently received an email from no less an entity than the highly rated Black Entertainment Television (BET), that his Lest We Forget video will be aired on BET’s Lift Every Voice gospel show on Sunday, March 14, at 10:00 am (EST).
The marketing savvy entertainer who is also being eyed by the United Nations to perform at a humanitarian concert later this year, has recorded a song for Haiti, entitled 90 Million Francs. It tells the history of that battered nation ravaged by man-made and natural disasters.
“The objective is to use the song as a promotional tool to raise money for the Haiti Relief Fund,” David M said in a press release. “We will ask Corporate Jamaica to sponsor the song in a ‘Pay for Play for Haiti’ format where companies will pay each time the song is played on the radio. Every spin sponsored by a company only cost $1,000. Therefore, if a company sponsors five thousand dollars ($5,000) the song will be played five times allocated by the station based on the different disc jocks who will be playing the song,” he explained.
According to the press release, Mayberry Investment Limited has already committed $200,000 for 200 plays. Other confirmed commitments have also been received from private sector companies such as Burger King, Super Clubs, Anchor Recording Studio, Tropical Battery, Calatel, Terminex Jamaica Limited, Caribbean Broilers, Minott Chemicals, Gas Investments Limited, Continental Garage, Hard Rock Café Jamaica Zinc Shac, Liquid Light and many more pending to come on board.
“There will be no handling of the money by David M or his representatives. All cheques/cash will go directly to the Haiti Relief Fund for our brothers and sisters in Haiti,” the release stated.
