Ace & Art
Sometimes the chemistry between a photographer and his muse is so strong it’s almost palpable. And Peter Dean Rickards’ recent photo shoot with Pulse model Oreintha Russell is testament to this fact.
“Whenever we work together it’s absolutely magical,” his muse shares with SO.
Though the work remains untitled, Rickards says he’s leaning towards naming the project ‘Ace’.
Shot at Waves Club Beach in St Catherine, the photographs convey the beauty of nature.
“It’s really about catching the natural,” Rickards says as he speaks to the composition of the photos.
“The water, the sun and sand are endemic to Jamaica and with those elements, I feel that it’s hard to do a bad shot.”
Modelling swimsuits by 3rd Revolt, donning a cap and gloves, the leggy Russell emanates a kind of superhero glam.
“She reminds me of a cartoon, those long legs and how she bends her body to create beautiful lines,” Rickards adds. It’s a match made in creative heaven and it doesn’t hurt that the photog and young muse know that it’s a symbiotic relationship.
The true test of any great photograph, the artisan tells SO, is an absence of interference.
“When viewers are looking at a picture all they must see is the subject’s natural appeal… as if there’s no camera before them.”
