Wolmer’s Forte claims Penn award
PHILADELPHIA, USA — Wolmer’s Boys’ Julian Forte was a double winner on Saturday as the 116th Penn Relays Carnival came to an end at the University of Pennsylvania’s Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
Forte, who ran on both Wolmer’s winning teams in the 4x100m and 4x400m, was named the Penn Relays High School Boys Relays Athlete of the meet and shared the Team Jamaica Bickle (TJB) award with Bellefield’s Kemoy Campbell as the champion Jamaican high schoolboy.
Forte ran the third leg on the sprint relay team, as well as anchoring the mile relay team with a split of 47.17 seconds.
Campbell on Friday became the first Jamaican high school runner to win the 3,000m at the Penn Relays, running 8 minutes 20.14 seconds, the fourth fastest time ever.
Holmwood Technical’s Chris-Ann Gordon, who was named the Penn Relays High school female athlete of the meet after anchoring the winning 4x400m and 4x800m teams, was named the TJB Champion girl, while Holmwood, who swept all three relays, including the 4x100m, was named the top Jamaican female team.
Wolmer’s won the award for the top male school in the awards ceremony that was held at the TJB tent after the meet and which was sponsored by Digicel and Western Union.
