Local multimedia facilitator Flow, recently launched its new broadband campaign, which seeks to highlight the advantages of its Internet service.

The company is encouraging consumers to “live life in the fast lane” and significantly improve how they work, learn and play.

“Flow’s broadband network is one of the most advanced and robust systems in the Caribbean,” Sharon Roper, director of marketing, shares with Thursday Tech.

Flow, through its parent company, Columbus Communications, owns and operates an elaborate undersea fibre optic infrastructure that comprises more than 14,000 km.

The Flow operation facilitates greater synergy between Jamaica and North and South America, since for the first time the island now has unprecedented capacity, redundancy, reliability and speed for data communications.

The new infrastructure allows for the delivery of various broadband-enabled services such as digital cable television, high speed Internet and IP telephony services via one high-capacity, blazing-speed connection.

Unlike the old dial-up DSL systems, or with wireless solutions like 3G and WiMax; the multimedia network allows customers greater speeds and capacity than that of the competitors. Prior to Flow’s entry into the market customers could only access around 1Mbps or less at high costs, as much as US$120 per month. When Flow came in they offered up to 3Mbps at US$32.

“As a result of our entry market prices fell by as much as 75 per cent,” Roper notes.

“Residential customers can get up to 15Mbps, only on Flow, and at the best value price points,” Roper adds, noting too that Flow’s monthly charge for the maximum speed of 8Mbps is $2,450 while a monthly charge of $3,200 is required for a maximum speed of 15Mbps.

But how do these charges translate into a positive experience for the end user?

Simply put, more options and better ways to work, learn and play. Consumers for instance, can opt to work from home or work remotely as Flow’s broadband facilitates solutions such as video conferencing, and large file sharing without buffering or freezing. This facilitates greater levels of e-business and/or innovative ways to expose and sell their products and services.

In addition, Flow’s add-on telephone features such as call conferencing call waiting and caller ID are all standard with Flow and available to clients at no extra charge, says Roper.

“The Flow network also allows students to attend classes online, spend long hours researching, watch lectures online and download large files faster, cheaper and better.”

Customers, are also using Flow’s greater Internet speed and capacity to enjoy brand new ways of entertainment. They play games online against other gamers across the world; videoconference with friends and family without their Internet ‘hanging’; ability to watch streaming of high-quality movies and music videos in crystal clear quality, at the fastest speeds.

So, with greater speed and a steadily rising track record, life in the fast lane seems totally plausible.
