Trio seeks JFF Under-21 crown
CHAMPIONS and leaders Harbour View hold destiny in their hands when they travel to the Tony Spaulding Sports Complex to face Arnett Gardens in the final round of the JFF Under-21 League today at 3:30 pm.
Harbour View lead the 12-team league with 72 points, the same as Tivoli Gardens, but with a plus-six goal differential, with victory virtually assuring them of a third successive crown.
Waterhouse are next on 70 points and their only hope is for the top two to slip-up.
Tivoli will have their work cut out away against fourth-placed Portmore United at Ferdie Neita Park, while third-placed Waterhouse — who trail the frontrunners by two points — will also be on the road, against Boys’ Town, at Collie Smith Drive.
In other matches, August Town entertain Humble Lions at UWI Bowl, Rivoli United play Sporting Central at Prison Oval and St Georges take on Village United at Lynch Park.
Harbour View’s coach Harold Thomas says he is anticipating the usual hard challenge from their opponents, but is confident of victory.
“It is a good opportunity for us to retain the title and we have our destiny in our own hands. However, playing against Arnett is never easy, but we’re ready to fight for everything,” he said.
“Throughout the competition we have played with confidence and belief and I don’t see any reason to change now,” he added.
However, the Desmond Francis-coached Tivoli will be hoping Arnett can pull off an upset and create an opening for the west Kingston-based side.
But they will have a mammoth task trying to get maximum points against a Portmore team which is only four points behind.
Meanwhile, the Anthony Patrick-coached Waterhouse, who held the lead for just one round two weeks ago, will also be banking on Portmore and Arnett to upstage their opponents to have an inside run to the title.
A win for Waterhouse, coupled with losses for the front two, would give the Drewsland-based club their first Under-21 title. All other games are of academic interest only.
