Cocktails With… – Eve Pearl
The five-time Emmy winner Eve Pearl is simply enjoying her time in Kingston, Jamaica as she sips stylishly at Fiction after launching the partnership between Permanent Cosmetics Studio and Boutique and her eponymous make-up line. She’s not in her usual New York state of mind, but is instead chilling and sharing her excitement on being a part of this year’s Caribbean Fashion Week.
What are you sipping?
A glass of white wine… a nice way to cool down after the rush of doing several make-up demonstrations.
What are your thoughts on being here in Jamaica?
I love Jamaica. I’m excited to be here and to be participating in Caribbean Fashion Week as the official make-up sponsor. We got such a wonderful, warm reception…already, I have found out that Jamaica has a sense of progression very much like New York, something is always happening.
Socialite or homebody?
I work in news (she’s make-up artist for The Today Show), so I’m travelling all the time. I’m like a socialite who longs to be a homebody (laughs).
Flats or stilettos?
Stilettos, flats are just as bad for your posture. So if I’m going to hurt my back, I’d rather look good while doing it.
What’s your style?
I’m a curvy girl, so I like to accentuate my natural lines…I’d say classy-sexy.
Who does your hair?
Mark Garrison in the Upper East Side, he colours my hair.
Who does your nails?
I do them myself.
What’s the best thing about being a make-up artist?
You really help to change people’s lives; make-up makes women feel confident and I feel that’s my small gift to give.
When you’re not at work, where’s the best place to find you?
Well, I work at least 20 hours per day. When I’m not at The Today Show (between 5:00 am and 10:00 am), I’m at my store (from 10:00 am to about 7:00 pm), but when you love what you do it feels less like work.
What projects are you currently working on?
We’ve (the Eve Pearl team) also developed a production company called Great Faces, everything we do we document now, because there was a time we’d do all these celebrities’ make-up and never have footage. Now, Great Faces has capitalised on this by employing social media like YouTube and our business has tripled since. We share our experiences and educate with online tutorials and it’s working out just fine. My goal is to teach women to celebrate beauty instead of being scared of it.
What’s in your car stereo?
From Black-Eyed Peas to Julio Iglesias… I like dance music because I’m always tired so I need something to keep me going.
What’s the best piece of advice you have to give?
It takes many years to become an overnight success.
And 10 years from now?
I hope that women everywhere will be doing the Eve Pearl method. It’s not just about selling products, it’s also about teaching a woman how to enjoy beauty and that human connection, making her feel special about what she was blessed with brings you loyalty and longevity.
