Hair for all occasions

Kenya Henry is one of Kingston’s most popular and well-respected hairstylists. He has worked his magic behind the scenes on photo shoots, music videos, fashion shows and of course with his regular clients. Under the Dryer set up an appointment with him to watch him create four different hairstyles for various occasions. Here are the results.

Melanie Fitz-Henley – Playful Flips

School’s out for the summer and there’s a plethora of events to attend. Kenya wants to give Melanie a chic look that can work for just about any occasion. Melanie’s hair is natural, curly and worn in a short, ear-length bob.

Here are the steps he took:

Kenya worked a dab of CHI Cationic Hydration Interlink Silk Infusion through Melanie’s tresses and then blow-dried it straight. He then worked in a small amount of L’Oréal Paris Perfect Curls Curl Shaping Cream and then spritzed with TRESemmé Curl Care Styling Spray before using a hot iron to create ‘playful yet trendy flips’.

0832 – We love how her curls look soft and feminine.

Keneisha Mitchell – A Sleek Updo

Keneisha wears a weave but wants a change from the typical ponytail or simply wearing her hair loose. She’s in search of something classy and eye-popping.

Kenya’s Take:

The knowledgeable stylist decides on a sleek updo with curls to the front to complement his client’s facial features. The Under the Dryer team gave the thumbs-up to this versatile look that is runway ready and elegant enough for a wedding and with the right accessories and edgy make-up, can also work for the party scene… Keneisha loves it too!

0942 – Kenya put a more modern twist on the classic updo with a few curls to the front.

0943 – It looks great from any angle!

Marie Fitz-Henley – Day-to-evening glam

Marie’s hair has a long curl pattern so she usually wears her hair curly. Kenya decided to kick things up a notch with a sleek, silky-smooth ‘blowout’ for a completely different look.

The Procedure:

Kenya’s assistant Tamar shampooed and conditioned Marie’s hair with TRESemmé Salon Silk Shampoo and Conditioner, before applying CHI Cationic Hydration Interlink Silk Infusion to her damp hair ahead of blow-drying. Kenya took over here and worked a drop of L’Oréal Paris Perfect Curls Curl Shaping Cream into her tresses before using a ceramic flat iron to give it a sleek, silky-smooth look. This classic hairstyle is the essence of day-to-evening glam, and works for the office just as well as it does for an evening event or even a day at the beach. The best news, of course, is that it looks great on Marie.

0913 – Marie’s highlights add a further boost to the look.

0910 – We love how the fringe softens the business-like edge of the hairstyle.

Kimberly Sutherland – Flirty side swoop

With this hairstyle, Kenya went for an ultra-feminine look and feel that he describes as ‘a nice, playful swoop to one side with a side part for emphasis’. As lovely as it looks, it was actually pretty simple (or seemed this way since we were watching a pro at work) — He simply created a side part, brushed her hair to one side and used a hot-curler to create curls of varying shapes and sizes before pinning them all up together for a slightly tousled but stylish effect. We can so see her looking all ‘glammed up’ for a romantic date with this very graceful look, but it’s not too fussy for a regular day when a girl just wants to feel good.

Captions:

0853 – Kenya uses a rat-tail comb to create a side part.

0923 – Don’t you just love the ‘flirty-girl appeal’ of Kimberly’s elegant hairdo?

0927 – It looks like a simple, wrapped-up ponytail from the front…

0929 – … with the element of surprise to one side that transforms ordinary to elegant.
