Sun Country Airlines plans to commence once-a-week flights between Montego Bay and Michigan in the US in December.

Last week, the airline, in a press release, announced plans to add non-stop service to three US and two international destinations — Jamaica and Cancun, Mexico.

“Beginning December 26, 2010, flights to Montego Bay will depart Lansing (Michigan) each Sunday at 7:00am and arrive at 10:55am,” said the release. “Return service will operate on the same days at 11:50am for a 3:50pm arrival back in Lansing.”

The introductory rates will go for US$199 one way to Montego Bay, while the airline intends to charge US$159 for the fare to Mexico.

In 2009, a number of airlines carried passengers to and from the US state, including Spirit Airlines, Northwest Airlines, American Airlines and Delta Airway, with Northwest carrying the largest share.

“Our travelers will now enjoy non-stops flights to five new exciting destinations and we are confident that the new service will be very popular with Michigan travelers,” said Sun Country’s president and CEO Stan Gadek, in the press statement. “Mexico, the Caribbean, Florida and Las Vegas will now be available to the greater Lansing area with non-stop flights featuring low fares and award-winning service including First Class,” Gadek went on to say.

Robert Selig, executive director of Lansing’s Capital Region International Airport, welcomed Sun Country to the market:
