Lindsay Lohan pouts for prison mugshot

Lindsay Lohan pouts for prison mugshot

Lindsay Lohan posed for her latest photo shoot on Tuesday morning– at the jail where she will be spending at least the next three weeks. Wearing a regulation orange prison jumpsuit, the actress appears to pout and possibly smirk for the camera. She had arrived at the jail in handcuffs after a court appearance that lasted under 10 minutes.

The 24-year-old star was late for her 8:30 am court hearing–she arrived in court at 8:40 am after getting stuck in the Los Angeles traffic and was handcuffed out of the view of cameras just eight minutes later, put in a police car immediately and driven to jail where she will be confined to her cell for 23 hours a day. An upset-looking Lohan sat in the court and listened attentively as Judge Marsha Revel ordered her to go to jail. Judge Revel said there would be no house arrest, and no early release. Lohan will serve her time at the bleak, 16-year-old prison at Lynwood, just south of downtown Los Angeles.

The actress will be housed in the 2,200-bed facility’s special needs unit, where she will live in isolation for her own safety. It won’t be Lohan’s first time inside the lockup, which has served as Los Angeles County’s only all-female jail since 2006. Thanks to jail overcrowding and a state programme that credits inmates for good behaviour, non-violent female misdemeanour offenders such as Lohan typically serve only about 25 per cent of their sentences, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department spokesman Steve Whitmore. This means Lohan’s 90-day sentence could be reduced to about three weeks and she could be out of jail in time for the premiere of Machete, the action-thriller opening September 3 that stars Lohan as a gun-obsessed socialite.

Madonna follows in her ex-husband’s footsteps as she shoots new movie W.E.

The streets of London are more usually film-maker Guy Ritchie’s shooting location of choice, but yesterday there was a new director making her feature film directorial debut there–his ex-wife Madonna. In what might easily be seen as a slap in the face for Ritchie, his 52-year-old former wife was barking out the orders to a film crew.

As the Daily Mail once wrote, one of the reasons for the breakdown of the couple’s marriage was Ritchie’s ridiculing of Madonna’s efforts to direct a short documentary film about Malawi. It seems clear that this has made the singer even more determined to succeed in her ex-husband’s professional field. Sources on the set of her new movie have said the singer is throwing her all into it–and tellingly has cast two very strong female parts as the leads. This is a film about the strength of the so-called weaker sex. It focuses both on the affairs between King Edward VIII and American divorcée Wallis Simpson and by comparison a contemporary romance between a married woman, Wally Simpson, and a Russian security guard.

It is fitting that Madonna’s directorial debut should be this way–and is no coincidence as the film almost feels designed just to show Guy who’s boss, said a film source. Madonna has also used her influence in the film to launch the acting career of her 14-year-old daughter Lourdes Leon. Lourdes, Madonna’s daughter with fitness trainer Carlos Leon, will make her first appearance on set in the coming weeks and star in a minor role. The film also stars James D’Arcy, James Fox and Laurence Fox.

Taylor Swift to release new album on October 25.

Taylor Swift will release her third album, Speak Now, worldwide on October 25. She announced it to her fans on Tuesday through a live web chat. It’s been two years since Swift released her sophomore album Fearless. She says: ”You’ve got to give yourself a little bit of time to live a lot of things so you can write about a lot of things.”

Swift explains that the title, Speak Now, is the theme, and that “track by track, each song is a different confession to a different person”. She wrote all 14 tracks herself. The first single, Mine, will be released on August 16. Swift also plans to launch a world tour following the release. Fearless was the top-selling album of 2009 and earned Swift every major award, including four Grammys.

On her way: The actress closes her eyes as she is driven to prison in the back of a police car in Beverly Hills.
