Rhodes Hall shock ‘Herbert’ in Western basketball
BOGUE, St James — Rhodes Hall High won successive matches to start the Under-16 division of the ISSA/Western Conference High Schools Basketball League on Friday with an upset 58-49 win over hosts Herbert Morrison in Montego Bay.
The win pushed the Hanover school to first place in the section on four points to lead Herbert Morrison and Muschett both on three points, with defending champions Cornwall College, Spot Valley and Holland all on two each.
Herbert Morrison, however, beat Mannings School, 76-39, in the Under-19 section for their first win of the season as Muschett beat Spot Valley, 53-18, in the Under-16s, while their Under-19 game was rained out.
Mannings and Muschett, with a win and a loss each, are tied for the lead in the Under-19 category on three points each, followed by Herbert Morrison, Cornwall and Spot Valley.
Meanwhile, Maldon have withdrawn from the Under-19 section and will be replaced by Irwin High.
On Friday, Leon Moncrieffe scored 17 points and Ewan Symester 13 for Rhodes Hall in their win over Herbert Morrison, while the hosts were led by 28 points from Daniel Henry.
In the Under-19 game, three Herbert Morrison players scored double figures, led by Jamoy Richards’ 18 points, David Brown’s 16 points and 15 rebounds and Rodeine Reid’s 15 points.
